Urban Organic Gardening

They say that the farmer is one of the humblest people there is. That is because they literally and physically work on the "ground" with bare hands -- hence, a very grounded personality.

Isn't it that gardening has the same humbling effect as agriculture? Was it because you're tending to a fragile life form, that if you fail to give your full attention they'll be gone too quickly.

I'd like to get into organic vegetable gardening because I'd like to secure myself with fresh and healthy food. Though I'm no farmer nor green thumb, I am hoping organic gardening would be quite easy. After all, vegetable gardening was something we learned in elementary school but didn't really bother to take it seriously then. Now that I'm already close to becoming old and gray, I'd like to ground myself again, and as the cliche goes --- go back to basic, starting with cleaning up our home garden in preparation for this project.

Urban gardening is becoming a movement already in many key cities around the world. People are encouraged to plant vegetables in their backyard, rooftop or deck. For instance these images . . .

Looking at these pictures really excites me already. The last 2 images above are taken from no less than New York City.

Regardless whether there's a shortage of safe food or more and more people are becoming conscious of the food they eat, this movement is really worth the trouble, so I'm hopping on the bandwagon very, very soon. And with my friends from Green Goodness ready to teach me proper organic gardening and supplying me with organic plants and inputs, I'm quite sure this is going to be a successful project.
